Who is responsible.
Signal Archipelago is an independent research and advisory practice operated by Travis Paterson. For questions or requests about personal data, email editor@signalarchipelago.com with “Privacy request” in the subject line.
Information we may collect.
- Correspondence: your name, contact details and the contents of messages you choose to send.
- Basic technical and security information: IP address, browser/device information, timestamps and request logs generated by the hosting and security providers.
- Paid-work records: business contact, scoping, contracting, invoice and payment records where you or your organisation request a commercial engagement.
Please do not send health, biometric, financial-account, government-identity, children’s or other sensitive personal data through ordinary email. Use redacted or representative material for an initial enquiry.
Why we use it.
- To answer editorial corrections, source notes, questions and commercial enquiries.
- To prevent abuse, diagnose failures and protect the website.
- To scope and administer a paid engagement, meet record-keeping duties and resolve disputes.
We use information to answer your request, perform an agreed service, meet legal duties or protect the website, subject to applicable law. Where processing requires consent, you may withdraw it.
Service providers.
This website does not currently collect newsletter subscriptions. Email links open your own email application. Google Meet, LinkedIn and WhatsApp links take you to services with their own privacy policies.
Website hosting, email, security, payment, accounting and professional advisers may also process limited information only where needed for their role. These providers can operate outside your country. Where applicable, reasonable contractual, security and transfer safeguards will be used. Signal Archipelago does not sell personal contact information.
Cookies and analytics.
No optional advertising or standalone analytics service is configured in this website’s application. Hosting services may use essential storage and logs to operate and secure the site. If optional analytics, advertising or profiling is added later, this notice and any required consent controls will be updated before use.
Retention and deletion.
Information is kept only for as long as reasonably needed for the stated purpose, legal record-keeping, security or a dispute. Correspondence and paid-work records are reviewed periodically and deleted or anonymised when no longer needed, subject to legal and accounting requirements.
Your choices and rights.
- Ask whether Signal Archipelago holds personal data about you and request access to it.
- Ask for inaccurate data to be corrected or, where applicable, deleted.
- Withdraw consent or object to/restrict certain processing where applicable.
- Ask for a portable copy where applicable or raise a concern with the relevant data-protection authority.
A request may require reasonable identity verification. Some information may need to be retained where law, security, freedom of expression, public-interest journalism or an active legal claim permits or requires it. Signal Archipelago aims to respect applicable data-protection rules, including Indonesia’s Law No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection, without implying that one notice displaces mandatory rights elsewhere.
Security, children and changes.
Reasonable organisational and technical measures will be used, but no internet or email system can be guaranteed completely secure. If a material personal-data incident occurs, affected people and authorities will be notified where required. The website is intended for professional readers and is not directed to children. This notice may change when services, providers or legal requirements change; the date above will be updated and material changes will be signalled appropriately.
